There are 3 types of inhalers in this category: diskus, turbuhaler and Ellipta. The drug dose is prepared by sliding a lever (diskus), sliding a cover (Ellipta) or twisting the base (turbuhaler) fully in one direction then back again, until a click is heard.
The diskus device can contain salbutamol (Ventolin®) which is a short acting beta agonist, salmeterol (Serevent®) a long acting beta agonist (LABA), fluticasone (Flovent Diskus®) which is a steroid , or fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair Diskus®). Click here for a document that lists all the inhaler medication components and whether they are a LABA, LAMA or steroid.
Ellipta can contain, a long acting antimuscarinic (LAMA) only (LAMA) (Incruse®) umeclidinium, or a combination long acting beta agonist and long acting antimuscarinic (LAMA) or a steroid plus a long acting beta agonist (Breo®) or steroid plus a long acting beta agonist with a long acting antimuscarinic (LAMA) or a steroid only (Arnuity®)
The Turbuhaler device can contain a long acting beta agonist only (Oxeze®), a steroid/long acting beta agonist combination (Symbicort), a steroid only (Pulmicort®) or a short acting beta agonist, terbutaline (Bricanyl®)
